Our Vision

Our vision is a world where all people attain optimal iodine nutrition and children can reach their full cognitive potential.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be the authoritative voice for iodine nutrition. We support and catalyze global and national iodine programs, working with key public, private, scientific and civic stakeholders. We focus on universal salt iodization as the most cost-effective and sustainable solution for prevention of iodine deficiency disorders.

Welcome

Welcome to the South Asia Regional Office of the International Council for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD) Global Network. South Asia Regional Office is committed to sustainable elimination of Iodine Deficiency Disorders from the region. Iodine deficiency disorders are the most common cause of preventable brain damage. It not only affects the human health today, but also impacts the intellectual potential of our children with consequent impact on future well-being of our region. Currently around 565 million general population and 78 million school aged children in South Asia Region countries have insufficient iodine intake. Universal salt iodization is the most cost-effective intervention for sustainable elimination of iodine deficiency disorders.

South Asia regional office of ICCIDD has been involved closely with the Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Programme in all eight countries of the region and has achieved major successes in Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka, where we were able to achieve universal salt iodization. In other countries of the region too, we have made major inroads. With support from all stakeholders in the region including local governments, salt producers and traders, non-governmental organizations and the consumers, we will be able to achieve our target of sustainable elimination of iodine deficiency disorders in the near future in rest of the countries too.
